Last August I made wood letters for my wife’s classroom, and when I posted the project, it became one of my most popular posts of 2015. Since I posted the project, I have received requests for plans for other letters, so I thought I would start off 2016 by sharing plans for all the letters of the alphabet. Last week I shared plans for A-M, and this week I finish up with N-Z.
I used 2×4 to make the DIY wood letters and 1×3 furring strips as trim around the letters.
- 2x4x8 (One per 2 letters)
- 1x3x8 (One per letter)
- 2-1/2 in pocket hole screws
- 1-1/4 in brad nails
- Compound Miter Saw
- Kreg pocket hole Jig
- Air Compressor and Nail Gun
Step One: Use pocket hole screws to attach 2×4 pieces to make the letters. Refer to illustration below to see how to cut the pieces for curved letters (O,P,Q, R, S, and U).
Step Two: Use 1×3 furring strips to make the trim for the letters. Then attach the trim with 1-1/4 in brad nails. Some of the letters are simple to trim with all the cuts being 45 degrees, others are a little more complicated (See illustrations below for tips on how to cut trim).
